Ritual of Joy

Increasing a loving relationship with yourself is really the most important and effective way of aligning all aspects of your life and relationships. As I often mention, self-love is crucial to truly being able to give and receive love. So it is worth putting some energy into building that self-love muscle.

The exercise that I am presenting in this issue is called "Ritual of Joy." It is one of my favorite practices and one that I have been doing 4-5 times a week for several years now. I really notice it when I don't do the practice; often, my day does not go as smoothly as I would like. The intention of this practice is to promote the following experiences, which can allow you to live more consciously and intentionally:

  • Increase energy

  • Cultivate gratitude

  • Strengthen the emotional part of yourself

  • Manifest the most meaningful day possible

Ritual of Joy

I recommend that you do this practice daily, preferably in the morning. Try to spend about 15 minutes on it. It can help you get more centered and grounded.

  1. Breathing - Breathe deeply into your stomach, noticing the sensations and sounds of your inhale and exhale. Do this 3-5 times.

  2. Gratitude - Think of what you are most grateful for in your life. If there is something significant going on for you that is claiming a lot of your attention, can you find a few things about it you can feel grateful for? This is a great practice to do when you are struggling or feeling unhappy about something. The experience of gratitude can help you see your problems in a new light. (Spend about 5 minutes on this.)

  3. Stepping into your Strength - Check in with yourself about your state of mind and body. Are you feeling balanced? Strong? Weak? Insecure? How would you like to feel? Focus on embodying your ideal state of being. If you can, think of a time in your life when you felt the way you'd like to be feeling right now. For example, if there's some issue going on in your life that has left you with a sense of disempowerment, remember a time when you felt strong and powerful. Focus on the sensations of strength and power and bring them into your mind and body. Make them real for you in this moment. (Do this for about 5 minutes.)

  4. Visualize - Visualize how you would ideally like your day to go. Envision an optimal outcome for all of the interactions you expect to have with people, events that are likely to occur, business that you need to manage, feelings that you want to be experiencing, and so on. Remember that you are in charge of how you experience your day. Use this practice to optimize your experience, carve out time for what is important to you, and manifest what you truly want for your day. (Spend about 5 minutes on this.)
